Understanding Iconic Weapons
Iconic weapons in Cyberpunk 2077 are unique firearms and melee tools distinguished by their special perks, which are not found on standard weapons. These attributes make each iconic weapon distinct and often more powerful than their common counterparts. While many iconic weapons traditionally lacked mod slots, the Phantom Liberty expansion introduced new iconic weapons with an “x-MOD2” suffix, featuring two guaranteed mod slots and improved handling.
The rarity and base damage of iconic weapons can vary depending on your progression in the game, as they scale with your level. They can also be upgraded or crafted into better versions, potentially gaining two random additional effects. However, their core special attribute remains constant regardless of upgrades or crafting.
Acquiring Iconic Weapons
Iconic weapons are found in specific locations throughout Night City and are acquired through various methods. Some are purchased from vendors, while others are obtained by completing certain side quests. Many are carried by specific characters and can only be acquired by defeating them. It’s important to note that many iconic weapons are available only once from a particular source, and missing an opportunity to obtain them may mean you cannot get them without restarting.
Iconic weapons can generally be categorized by their acquisition method:
- Main Job Iconic Weapons: Found during the primary story missions.
- Side Job Iconic Weapons: Acquired during optional side missions.
- Iconic Weapon Loot Drops: Obtained as loot from high-value targets outside of quests.
